Young people benefit from holistic approach to
unemployment [Denmark]

Denmark’s intensive, long-term employment
programmes for young people are garnering praise for helping to
keep unemployment rates down while they soar elsewhere. Just 3.2%
of Denmark’s under 25’s are jobless, a far lower rate than most
European Union countries. High levels of financial support for
employers and jobseekers have been key factors in keeping
unemployment low, while the Government have also set targets for
reducing the time it takes for unemployed young people to find
jobs. From this spring, jobseekers will have to be offered a job or
training place within a month of registering. Meanwhile, a new
scheme will see business offered US$7,000 for six months if they
take on an apprentice aged 25 or under for three years.
