The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO) has launched the 2010 Education for All
Global Monitoring report which examines the impact of the global
economic recession on marginalised children and young people from
the poorest countries. The report highlights an increased focus by
national governments on skills development as an important tool for
achieving Education for All targets. Increases in youth employment
and the growth of a knowledge-based global economy are placing
technical and vocational education and training at the heart of
strategies to ensure that a whole generation of children are not
lost to these difficult economic times.
