End of recession signals new skills shortage

Australian recruitment consultancy, Clarius,
has compiled economic data which highlights the rapidly falling
number of skilled people looking for work. They estimate that
only 17,000 skilled professionals are now seeking work – down from
a high of 45,000 last September. The shortfall is most
pressing in the IT, catering, construction and engineering sectors
and will be exacerbated as the ‘baby boom’ generation
retires. In total, 17 out of 20 skilled sectors experienced a
decline in the availability of labour towards the end of last
year.
