qualifications across 28 industries and currently award around 1.9
million certificates every year. The City & Guilds Group
includes: the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), the
UK’s largest management body, combining industry-leading
qualifications and specialist member services; City & Guilds
Land Based Services, the UK’s biggest provider of land-based
qualifications and licences to practise; and the City & Guilds
Centre for Skills Development, working with researchers,
practitioners, employers and learners to improve the policy and
practice of vocational education and training worldwide.
affairs of City & Guilds are governed by its Council, members
of which may be ex officio, appointed by the Corporation of London
and certain livery companies, elected or co-opted. A smaller
Executive Committee, which meets four times a year, is made up of
Council members, and Executive Committee members are City &
Guilds’ charity trustees. City & Guilds’ Director-General is
responsible for the executive management of City & Guilds and
reports to the Executive Committee and Council. The
Director-General works through a Group Board of Directors, who are
full-time City & Guilds employees appointed by the Trustees,
representing directorates and other members of the City &

been operating under Royal Charter since 1900. Our surplus is used
to develop qualifications and resources that are cutting-edge and
completely relevant to the ever-changing workplace. We pioneer the
most up-to-date delivery and assessment methods, furthering the
skills agenda in the UK and worldwide through profile-raising,
sponsorship and the initiation of innovative skills-based projects
and ventures. Our vision is to enable people and organisations to
develop their skills for personal and economic growth, creating a
more proficient and sustainable economy. By working together, we
can become the global benchmark for learner-centred skills

- Assessment and Qualifications
Alliance (AQA) and City & Guilds joined forces to
offer the 14-19 Diplomas in September 2008. As the leading
providers of academic and vocational qualifications, we are the
ideal choice for consortia, schools and colleges looking to offer
